Time Into Space

About the Show

Music has a powerful emotional impact on us.
It is a unique art form with roots going back to religious ceremonies, tribal rituals, work distraction, and shared moments of joy.

Sometimes the mere act of hearing a song can embed it into our memory, so that when we hear that song again, not only are we hearing it a second time, but we feel the same rush of emotions we felt when we first heard it, all at the same time.

This sort of thing often happens with each subsequent time we hear a familiar song.

The emotions are compounded. In a way, it is like a form of time travel. We exist in this moment hearing a song, but also in all the many prior moments we heard the song, all at once.

With this show “Time Into Space” I want to play music that had an emotional impact on me, with the hope that listeners will also feel an emotional connection.

Along with new music as I discover it, in the hope of experiencing the same impact on the senses a person might have felt in 1956, hearing Rock N’ Roll for the first time.

Jeff Ross

Host

Jeff Ross has a lifelong passion for music. A passion so intense his hobby became his vocation. He has worked in various different record stores in California and Oregon. In 1988, throwing caution to the wind, he answered an Ad for a local public radio station seeking new deejays. This many years later he finds nothing more satisfying than putting together a selection of songs to entertain and intrigue a listening audience.

Short Story

I realized some time ago, listening to a favorite song of mine, that while I was enjoying the song in the present tense, I was also remembering prior times I had heard the song, and the emotional impact of the song was compounded by all of the prior instances, It felt like a form of time travel. Doing this radio show I hope listeners will also have the same sort of emotional connection to the music I select.
