Our guest today is Margaret O’Donnell, the playwright of the Detention Lottery, which we will be broadcasting as a radio drama here on KXRW. We’re excited to welcome Margaret to tell us about herself, her background, and her powerful play. Debuting in 2018, The Detention Lottery has been performed in churches, synagogues, community centers, and schools throughout Washington State and beyond. It’s intended to benefit immigrant justice organizations. The play was honored with by being selected for reading as part of the new play program at the 2021 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival. The play had 4 performances to provide aid to immigrants in Detention Northwest and then remounted in 2025 with an updated script, including a live radio drama, which is what our listeners will be presented here on KXRW.
