This episode of Flick Fix is a battle between newcomer and veteran, creepy hallways and government secrets, internet horror and classic Spielberg spectacle.
Austin starts with two recent releases: Backrooms, the feature film debut from Kane Parsons, bringing the eerie world of liminal spaces, endless yellow walls, and “I should not be here” energy to the big screen. Then it’s Disclosure Day, the new sci-fi thriller from Steven Spielberg, where alien secrets, global panic, and very serious people in very serious rooms collide. One film comes from a fresh new voice, the other from one of the biggest filmmakers of all time. Who wins? Who gets lost in the wallpaper? Who should maybe check the basement before signing a lease? You’ll have to listen.
Then, for the Spotlight Review, Austin sticks with Spielberg for Catch Me If You Can, the 2002 cat-and-mouse classic starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks. It’s slick, funny, charming, and full of fake identities, forged checks, and enough confidence to make airport security quietly sweat. But Austin also digs into the strange story behind the story, where the movie’s real-world legacy may come with one final trick hiding just outside the frame.
